Looking south down the beach towards the distinctive rocks of Rickett’s Head, the cottage just above the shingle bank and the figures in the foreground give this painting scale and perspective. I often paint using a palette of autumn and winter colours, as I find them endlessly fascinating. The purple heathers and the light coloured outcrops of rock are a particularly pleasing combination in this picture.
