The Mwsland, Lower Town

from £320.00

This particular view of Lower Town was inspired by a late 19th century black and white photo of the newly built bridge. Apart from fewer trees than there are today and the now derelict building on the right of the painting, I was surprised how little had changed. The Mwsland , sometimes known as the Island, is the patch of ground between the old mill leat and the river Gwaun. I used a very limited palette of colours, looking for the tonal values, whilst just picking out the lines of the beached boat in a vivid blue.
