Carningli Sunset

£650.00

Looking back towards Newport on a summer’s evening from the coastal path on Morfa Head, was the inspiration for this painting. It’s surprisingly difficult to get watercolour paints to behave themselves and stay in straight lines. Things would’ve been a lot easier if I’d chosen to use oils or acrylics. I made several attempts to create this deceptively simple painting on this scale. I do love a sunset, but I don’t want the overall effect to become saccharine or obvious. I hope I’ve avoided that trap here, with the strong colours, bold outline shape of the mountain and stylised depiction of the sand dunes and beach.
